Cannot find downloads

This is something that has cropped up from time to time. I get something like a bill and ask to download it. Down comes a PDF but I can't find it! Where did it go? How can I find it?

It is perhaps possible to arrange things so that downloads always, and automatically, go to the desktop?

This is a setting in your browser. So check there first and ensure that it defaults to Downloads.

So if you trigger a download, it should end up in this default spot. However, if you right-click on a link and then use the Save Link/Image As.. option then you control where that download goes.

Downloads should first go to your Downloads folder, which is one of the main folders under your home directory (your username).

I have my browsers set to for all downloads to go to my desktop. Once there you can't miss them and when you have decided what to do with them you can either move them to a folder of your choice or delete them.
