This morning, as I was working on my MacBook Pro, I heard a loud buzzing sound! I had no idea where it was coming from.
I was wondering if it might have been coming from my UPS device, or God forbid, my MacBook Pro!

I do have a basement subpump system. And it's been going on and off. But it didn't sound like this!!!

wacky question, I know! LOL

Yes, it could make a buzzing sound. Probably the fan. Check out

You can search for the guide for your specific model to see if you want to try to replace or clean the fan.

if you have dust around the vents, then it can definitely be the fans since that's the only mechanical piece of the MBP. A buzzing sound doesn't sound like any normal notification sound that I've heard on the MBP, but perhaps some app you were using?

By design I don't think any computer is supposed to make a buzzing sound...but over the years I'm sure many of us have heard computer sounds that probably not supposed to be there.

Sometimes this can be due to a design issue...or an age issue (older computer)...as parts start to wear or get dirty.

A more recent example...when I was reading reviews/watching You Tube review videos...there were some complaints about an unusual sound coming from the M1 Mac Studio (whining/buzzing). Some users said they experienced it...others did not.

So I would say yes...always possible a sound like buzzing can happen...but hopefully not designed to do it. Lol
