Well after much distress and work I finally, with the help of a Verizon tech rep, figured out how to get everything to sync. There were several issues. The biggest was that I was using Android-Sync on my Windows laptop to sync directly with USB. There was a conflict between it and Google that was keeping things from happening. If I created an event on the phone and selected Google, this is where the Verizon rep helped, it worked. It defaulted to Android-Sync. Those events previously created with Android-Sync could not be changed to Google. I ended up importing my Outlook calendar directly to Google and now everything works great. Thanks to everyone for the help, there was info that I didn't give because I didn't realize it was important. Now I can start to learn and enjoy my MacBook!
