Calendar is where I enter events. If I wanted a reminder I might open up the App of that name, bit I rarely use it. I tell Siri to remind me of things. However, lately when I go toCalendar, it wants to make everything a Reminder rather than an Event. I'm in Calander, but it defaults to Reminders which I don't want! I have to change it each time. AArrgghh. I could scream, please tell me how to change this horrible misbehavior

Please describe how you are creating these items. And add in what version of macOS, what version of Calendar.

I create events (appointments) by clicking on the date/hour of the event and then entering the appropriate data. What are you doing?

I did what you said, and it worked as it should. I am not sure what I did which frustrated me. I had been at a medical appointment and needed to schedule a follow-up and it happened repeatedly. I will try to recreate the scenario and reply what triggered the Reminder.... Thanks for replying.

I usually right click on the date and select New Event, not New Reminder.

It may have to do with the selected calendar you are attempting to to add the event into. I have multiple Calendars to choose from in the Calendar app.

That is an extra step that was not necessary before and I can do it but I resent progress causing more steps for the user. It does work though.

Ah, but it also adds extra flexibility to the app, so there is a tradeoff.

HINT: If you use Siri to make appointments/reminders, the prompts to make it work properly are, "Siri, make an appointment for X at <date and time>" or "Siri, remind me about X at <date/time>." With the proper terms, it works well for quick settings that can be refined later if needed.

It also may have to do with which view you are using in Calendar. I use the Month view, on macOS.

If you aren't doing so already, and it doesn't sound like you are, may I suggest a menu-driven application/utility for macOS Calendar and Reminders?

Calendar 366 II

What is the grandaddy of them all, but a fair bit pricier:
Fantastica

You may even wonder how are you managed without using either of them if you were just using Calendar on its own. 😉
