brightcovebootloader.swf auto-downloaded?

I clicked on a job listing link at jobs-to-careers.com and was surprised to see this file automatically downloaded:

brightcovebootloader.swf.

I was thinking that I had it set up that I would always be asked before downloading any file, but I may be thinking of Chrome or something else, as I looked around for such a setting and couldn't fine one.

I currently do not have Adobe Flash installed as I just reset my whole system with time machine back to when I had a clean install of OS X, so perhaps this is a response to not having a flash player?

I did not click on the item and sent it to trash, but just wondered if this is auto-downloading is normal with no option to change, or if I should find change a setting somewhere so that it prompts me before downloading?

I'm also wondering if anyone is familiar with this file?

I use Mountain Lion on a late 2009 iMac.

Thanks,
Zeppo

Sounds like an alternative to Flash Player which may have automatically fownloaded if you played a video etc.. Suggest not downloading anything from Softonic or CNET who include nasties. Best protection is AdBlockPlus, Ghostery and AdwareMedic. All are available as free downloads.

Thanks for the link.

I didn't view any video. Nothing played. Rather, it just automatically downloaded that file to my computer when I clicked on the job listing link. I was expecting it to show me details about the job like the other listings did. Perhaps the details of this particular listing were provided in a video of some kind. Whatever that .swf file is that downloaded to my computer, I didn't open it. I just sent it to the trash. So I assume nothing executed automatically as well. I don't see any players of any kind in my app folder or utilities folder. So hopefully nothing has been compromised on my system.

It's not an alternative, it's the file extent for Flash files. If the OP had Flash installed, it would have just played as a video. It doesn't install anything.
