Booting off of ipod?

ibook 14" 1.42GHz 512MB Ram
I heard somewhere that booting an operating system and doing a system restore using an ipod is bad for it, i wasnt sure if it was true or not so i thought i'd ask. I havent done it yet or anything but i thought it would be a cool idea incase i ever needed to do something like that, but i have my disks anyway.
