I have a Mac 3.1 and I just bought a ram upgrade of 2 2gb sticks from an authorized mac shop. When I load up Bootcamp or OSX the basic info tells me I have 4 gigs of ram. Problem is when I use task manager in windows it only shows that I'm using 2gigs. So my question is why can't windows use all of the ram and how can I tell if the same thing is happening on my Mac side. And is there a way to fix this.

What does the Control Panel System applet say about how much memory is installed in Windows? (not how much is used)

32 bit Windows can only use approximately 3.3 GB of memory regardless of how much is installed.

Small image, hard to read, but it looks like it sees either 2037 or 2937 MB. You are running 32-bit Vista, so you will see a max of about 3GB no matter what. Personally, dump Vista and upgrade to Win7 64-bit. Also, something has your memory pegged - looks like 90% is in use by some process. Usually, if things are working well, no more than 5-7% should be in use at a given time if you are at idle.

Also: Seeing and Using are completely different when it comes to RAM in 32-bit Windows.

I have some things running in the background but task manager is putting at 1.58. But I think your right about upgrading.

Total physical memory reads at 2037
