Guess this is something pretty basic but my iPhone and iPad refuse to pair.
I never normally bother but I'd like now to get a newspaper from the iPhone, which is in use as a Hotspot, to the iPad.
Is there perhaps something that I should do like deleting and starting again?
Thanks in advance.

You can't pair the iPhone and iPad.

If you want to transfer files between the two devices, depending on where the file is, you can AirDrop it between the devices or copy it to your Files application which could be synced over iCloud to both devices.

OK - thanks one more time. In fact, in the meantime I'd just read what you have told me.
At present I have no internet connection for the iPad.
I can use the iPhone as a hotspot and this works fine for e-mails and just about everything else when I am using my MBP.
But for some reason I can't get the newspaper into the iPad
So I'll try the AirDrop route ... I've used this for transferring pix but nothing else so far.

Gotcha. If you are using the iPhone as a hotspot, your iPad is using it to connect to the Internet bypassing anything specifically on the iPhone as it's designed to do.

However, if the file is on the iPhone, you'll have to use iCloud or AirDrop or your computer to move things between the devices.

Just so you understand, a hotspot allows a device to extend its Internet connection to other devices over a local WiFi. In this mode, your iPhone is functioning just like your wireless access point/router at home, just a bridge/conduit to the Internet. The device itself is "invisible" to the connecting device, it just sees a WiFi access point and Internet from there on.

Forgot to add something pretty basic.
I can read the newspaper on line via my MBP when the latter is connected via the iPhone's hotspot.
Might I be able to transfer from the MBP to the iPad at that time?
(Just noticed that you've posted while I was typing.)

How are you reading the newspaper? Through an app or browser?
