Hello all -

Having backlight issues with my iMac, and old 2010 model 11,3. Want to get an external monitor to use, but one that will work with my7,1 MB pro as well, also a 2010.

Not sure how to go about this, and have never done it before, so could you tell me what I need, and what the maximum size/resolution, etc, monitor that I can use with both machines? If you all need any other info, please feel free to let me know.

Both of those have MiniDisplay Port, so you would need two connectors from the video cord coming from your monitor (vga, dvi, hdmi, etc) to Mini Display Port. That model year iMac MDP also included audio, so the connector should as well.

Personally, I usually go with 24" 1080p monitors.

Sorry...a bit late to this thread. Max external monitor resolution on either of these computers from 2010 (iMac and MBP) is 2560x1600. Which is equivalent to the old/discontinued Apple 30" monitor.
