Before Big Sur, the calendar messages or alerts showed up in the above right corner, and one could choose to see it again in a very practical list of different possibilities. NOW there is only the alternative to switch it off (the X clicked) or go and open calendar (why should I?) or agree to "Repeat". This is very annoying: every few mInutes messages show up again and again, and if you do not want to loose the alert, but not react now!, you must say "Repeat" WITHOUT HAVING THE CHANCE TO SAY WHEN. What could be the great concept behind this??

If you look in System Preferences > Notifications and then select Calendars, what options are enabled? I believe you are getting Alerts instead of Banners. Change it to Banners and you should get the "X" back.
