I have the Kensington RDS FM transmitter and it's great... on my 2-hour commute, I have to change frequency once and it's the work of a moment
tried a cassette adaptor, as I had one from an old CD player but the quality was apalling - all-but inaudibly quiet... strange, as it worked well with the CD player and my Sony Mini Disc player as well... maybe it's the tape deck in my new car...
I was kind of late jumping on the iPod bandwagon. In fact, I got my first iPod on Friday! However, I knew that I wanted to be able to use the iPod in my car as much as I wanted to use it with headphones. The crappy factory head unit in my car had no aux input, so I decided to replace it with one of these.
It has a USB cable that can be run into one of your vehicles storage compartments during install (I have mine in a compartment above the radio). I simply plug my iPod into the cable (using the standard Apple iPod cable) and viola, I can control the iPod from the head unit. I could also plug any USB mass storage media (upto 250GB according to the manual) and play audio files through the stereo.
While I spent $300 that I didn't expect, it is worlds ahead of FM modulators or using the aux in (that I didn't have anyway). The iPod is hidden away and it charges while I listen.
I bought a car stereo with an AUX in, which is nice, but if I try charging it while its plugged into the deck I get a ground loop that makes a buzzy racket.
you may want to look at this and this. If you have never dont any type of wiring or anything you need not worry. Buying from crutchfield you get very well laid out directions and instructions on what and how to do it. Also if you find yourself lost you can call and get technical support (and not some guy/women in another coutry either, actually someone who can help you) to get you through. They are both basically the same thing, only the cheaper one lets you control the ipod with the ipod, wheras the more expensive one has a dash mounted screen and some type of controller.
