Best way to export imovies

What would you recommend as the best way to export a 3-5 minute imovie off of imovie 11 on a 10.6 macbook? What size and format? Do you just do Share and Export and save it on the desktop?

I don't want students waiting around for long periods of time. I was also wondering if their videos would fit on 2 or 4gb flashdrives.

The answer to this all depends on what you plan on doing with a movie. iMovie has presets for a variety of devices and contexts. If you don't use one of them, you can always use the one that has the lowest resolution if you're worried about render times. Note though that the videos will take a quality hit if you do that.

We do want to project them. By the way, there is a function that seems to be a finishing process that seems to take a long time (for a 4 min. film it says it needs a few hours). What is this? It seems like it can be skipped.

Do you mean Finalize? All this does is create copies of your Project in every resolution that it will support, and make them available to other Applications via the Media Browser. If you don't need this, then there is no ned to Finalize a Project.

As for the size of your movie, it's as Vansmith says.
