Vansmith's legal zeal aside, Transmission. Tick the box for "use encryption" and "ignore unencrypted peers" in the preferences.
Legal zeal has nothing to do with it. This forum has very clear rules on illegal activity.
Correct. I did not however accuse the poster of nefarious actions as I asked about both possibilities (it's either legal or it's not). I believe my questions were legitimate - if it's illegal, don't do it and then you won't have to worry about encrypting your traffic. If it's legal, why is there such a concern about encrypting your traffic?Illegal activities were never mentioned.
It's all good.True, and my subtle jab wasn't meant to be taken really as anything more than a friendly poke before I answered the question. It's none of your business why he wants to use encryption. If the contents of your emails aren't private, why do you connect using SSL? If you're purchasing legal goods, what does it matter if you're using SSL.
Encryption is a good thing. Tick both boxes, be smart about what you're torrenting.
I hope you don't think me being a jerk, but truly I use SSL because my ISP will not send or receive my email without SSL!
I get your point about privacy though.
I think that this thread has gotten a lot more "traction" then it probably needs!

Agreed. Long story, made short - no one should be criticized for asking for specifics before answering a dubious question. That's all I'm saying and I'm done at this point.
My sentiments exactly. And to be honest, it's quite hard to ask what their intent is without sounding as if you're accusing them of misdeeds.Agreed!
Some folks may have the answer to a question asked and be hesitant of answering because of their own conscience.
There are just some activities that are used all too often for illegal purposes. Some of those quite willing to help (myself included) may need at least some assurance that the answer is not being used for nefarious activities before providing that answer. This is not too much to ask.
