Hey guys new here I have some computer-work background but not a whole lot so i have a lot of questions.
Sorry for the length. I gave you guys my problems and my possible solutions but I appreciate the help.
I have a 13" aluminum unibody Macbook from late 2008-2009.
I have had a clicking hard drive for a while and it's starting to get worse so I'm going to back up my stuff and get a new harddrive and I've had the battery for a long time so I need to get a new one as well.
Problems:
1. My computer freezes when I try to access my applications. So i'm assuming that part of my hard drive is corrupt so I won't be able to transfer everything over. Sometimes when i open the computer it clicks as well and my computer is frozen and sometimes that affects the computer for a while and i have to reboot my computer several times for it to not freeze.
So in order to not transfer over any corrupt files i think I might just transfer music and movies and start from scratch on everything else. What do you think?
2. My battery life is about 1 1/2 hours long right now.
3. I have an external hard drive that i can transfer things to. It has stuff from my roommate though who has a sony VAIO computer and I've never put anything on there just taken stuff off of it from him.
Solutions:
1. I plan on getting a hard drive, this one in fact... MacMall | Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420AS - 500GB Internal Hard Drive - 2.5" - SATA-300 - 7200 rpm - Buffer: 16 MB ST9500420AS
How does this look? I like the 7200 rpm and 500Gb.
Also these other two seem good to me..
Newegg.com - Western Digital Scorpio Black WD7500BPKT 750GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive
MacMall | Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500GB Internal SATA 3 Gb/s Mobile 2.5" Hard Drive WD5000BEVT
How would I go about starting this up? I don't know what I did with my original startup disk but I'd like to get 10.6 or 10.7 (can I even?) I believe my uncle has some 10.6 disks left so i can probably use that as a startup disk as well. What other difficulties would i encounter starting this up?
2. What kind of battery to get? I want one that can give me close to that 8 hour battery life. I know my first one was like maybe 4 hours. But i want a good battery? is it possible to get one from the 2009 macbook pros and install it?? If not what brand should I get? I looked on OCW and didn't find any for mine. I found this one.. Apple MacBook 13 Inch Aluminum Unibody, A1280 Battery - $55.90 is that decent? low price makes me sketch but I haven't found really anything else but most were 100 dollars for other macbooks.
also found this one.. http://www.macmall.com/p/Oncore-Power-Systems-Batteries/product~dpno~8812293~pdp.gidiieb It has a little higher voltage and mAh as well. Is that better/worse for the battery?
3. Is it going to mess up the external hard drive if I attempt to transfer things over? Some guy at a mac store said something about the hard drive reformatting and everything that is currently on there is gone. That kinda scared me but i feel like it wouldn't reformat anything but I honestly have no idea. I definitely want my music and movies to transfer over because that takes forever to get back. I have a bunch of applications but those are easily downloadable and i don't need most of the ones I have anyway. Plus that is possibly the corrupt part of my hard drive and I don't want to transfer that over if that is my problem as well.
Anyway that is my list of problems and possible solutions hahah. Sorry it's so long but I appreciate the help.
I would like to buy tonight so if you guys could give me good quick advice that'd be great!
Thanks in advance!
Tyler
