You smoke?! Next thing you know, you'll be shooting pool and saying things like "swell."

I did those things before I started smoking

Just given up, but used to smoke menthol :-}-

Ick! ;D

I don't smoke, hate people who stand at train stations blowing smoke in my face, hate coming home from gigs and clubs smelling like smoke and can't wait until 01/01/08 when all smoking in public buildings (including bars etc) will be banned here in Germany.

But feel free to kill yourself in the privacy of your own homes :)

I went to Wales before the smoking ban came in here in England, and the first thing that hit me was; although the train station platform was open-air, you couldn't smoke there. You had to walk round the back and block the fire escape if you wanted a ciggie

To be honest I think smoking in public places should be up to the people that own the place. I'm fine with people saying no smoking in their place, but I hate that the government has banned it across the board, and will fine the venue £1500 if they allow people to smoke there. Personally I think there should have been exceptions for some pubs/bookies... everything else I can understand, but they've been hit quite badly by the ban.

Just curious here, when/why did you all start smoking?

When I was 15. I started just having a smoke with a drink (as it seems everyone does), but when I started going to college (at 16), and a lot more of my friends smoked (only 1 of my school friends smoked, and he quit before I got to college anyway) I fell into "social smoking", and now I'm hooked.

I do not smoke cigarettes, but hookahs are very fun. There is nothing like chilling with friends talking around a hookah.

Yeah; it's a shame that all the specialist hookah/shisha shops have had to close with the smoking ban.... banning a place that is purely designed for smokers to protect the health of those smokers seems a little too far in my book... they're just going to smoke elsewhere, still "kill themselves" and a man is now out of business. Thanks government! I feel a lot better now!

Question for smokers. Do you know a place online that ships cigarettes internationally? And takes Mastercard? I'm having so much trouble finding a place. And the ones I do find are pretty shady.

I can't speak for the US, but I know here you still have to pay extra tax on tobacco/alcohol for imported goods, so you still don't get them any cheaper.

And no, I don't use a computer. I'm communicating through a surgically-implanted web browser that exists within the confines of my own brain. ;)

Cool; how much did that cost ya? What's the speed like?

Hmm...yeah. I really can not stand when people tell smokers how bad smoking is for the body. Seriously, everyone knows the dangers of smoking. And everyone is capable of making a rational decision regarding their own body. Let them be. It really is none of your business.

As for people smoking in public, people overreact about this so much, I can not help but laugh. I do not smoke, never have smoked, and am rarely around smoke. But when someone lights up in front of me, I don't immediately start whining about it. Get over it. You encounter unappealing smells, sounds, and people on a daily basis. The only difference? You are letting it get on your nerves. And you can not logically bring up the "It's bad for me" argument. The human body has a wonderful way of cleaning itself up (http://quitsmoking.about.com/cs/afterquitting/a/after_quitting.htm).

Yes it is.

It actually came as a free gift with my Road & Track subscription. The speed is great. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work. It runs off Leopard so my wireless connection sometimes disappears completely! :Shouting:

I really don't have a problem with people smoking as long as they don't smoke in my home, or in my car. Or they blow smoke directly in my face.

I smoke alcohol.

I smoke between DuMaurier Kingsize and Belmont Milds, depending on the mood I'm in. When I went to NYC a few years back, I picked up some Winston filters, and I liked them way more than Canadian cigarettes.

It's not like I'm the only person allergic to cigarette smoke. I'm not saying that someone shouldn't have the right to smoke. I'm just saying that people's right to breathe semi-clean air is far more important than someone else's right to suck smoke into their lungs, just to destroy alveoli. By calling it a way of life, you are implying that smoking cigarettes is as important as food and shelter. Those are ways of life. People don't (usually) have sex in public. No one is saying that people should not have sex, it just doesn't need to be done in public. IMO, and obviously in the opinion of the majority of the voting public in our great state of Ohio, smoking does not need to be done in public either. And no, I don't use a computer. I'm communicating through a surgically-implanted web browser that exists within the confines of my own brain. ;)

Some people are dangerously allergic to nuts. Should we ban nuts from all restaurants so these people can eat everywhere without worrying? Or should they have to go to restaurants that specifically do not use nuts?

Food and shelter are not ways of life. You do not understand what I mean by that phrase. Religion is a way of life. Doing yoga every morning is a way of life. Working out after class is a way of life. Smoking is a way of life. None of them are necessary to survive. Perhaps drinking should not be allowed in public?

Ohio has a way of passing horrible bills and amendments via referendum. For example, the gay-marriage ban which, unknown to most who voted for it, effectively banned both homosexual AND heterosexual civil unions. Oops. Even people who supported the smoking ban are regretting it. The Veterans' Clubs that fought so vehemently to pass the bill are now finding out that their private clubs are included in the bill! Oops again...Yay for the majority :|

Oh, and I was making a point. Obviously you are on a computer :p

I'm looking for some place that I can buy cigarettes to ship to my friend in Scotland. She is bumming because she doesn't have any money for '****'. I wanted to surprise her. I really don't care if they are cheaper. :p

Are you seriously comparing the right to eat a particular food to the "right" to release a noxious pollutant in a public space?

I think the debate about weather people should have the right to smoke should be held in another thread, maybe a thread in which a party involved would like to start... possibly even a pole, but I think crashing this thread to argue is risking closing down a thread of simple sharing of information and preferences with each other..

on that note I don't smoke.

Read my previous post again. Even the residue of nuts are deadly to people who are allergic. To them, it is way more than a noxious pollutant. But I'm not hearing people screaming for the death of nuts. To people who are not allergic to cigarette smoke, there are no permanent effects of second hand smoke (unless you are around it 24/7 for a decade or two). If we should ban cigarettes from public places because of those very few people allergic to it, why shouldn't we ban all nuts from public places? It is a legitimate comparison that shows exactly how absurd the ban on cigarettes is. Sounds like someone bent down and took it from the D.A.R.E. program (don't worry, I did too).

EDIT: Gah! I'm sorry for hijacking this thread. I will refrain from posting any more arguments here. I will gladly continue via PMs or a new thread. Sorry :(

Oh! I still want to know if anyone knows a good place to get cigarettes online that ships to Scotland. I don't even care if they are cheap!

I second that. The thread was started by a smoker to discuss smoking with other smokers. Maybe us non smokers should go somewhere else and let them enjoy their conversation.

On that note, anyone seen my beer?

It would have to be a UK store; otherwise she still has to pay the import duty (about 3% of cost including shipping), import VAT (17.5% of cost including shipping), some other tax because it's tobacco (relative to how much product, rather than a percentage of cost) AND a handling fee to the courier company (I think it's about £2 for Royal Mail) for taking care of it.

As for a UK website... sorry; I really don't know. If I want ****, the corner shop makes more sense than buying online.

I'd be happy to help you out (buy from a shop here and send them up) if I had the money, but that's your call... it would make more sense to just send her the money.

How much is a cartoon of Marlboro Reds there?

I'm not sure...I would rather surprise her, but I may just end up sending her money...

About £40-45, but I'm not 100% (I'll check later today if you like). I did find this online store; but the information is out of date. Excise duty is payable on tobacco products whether they're a gift or not, so I wouldn't recommend it.
