Sometimes when I (for example) press play on a youtube video, the video will begin to play but the audio doesn't start for 1-2 seconds. The same issue occurs occasionally when play songs in VLC. I'll press play on the song, the scrubber indicates the song is playing but no sound occurs until 1-2 seconds in.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? I play music for sporting events so timing is somewhat crucial for goal horns etc.

8GB DDR3 Ram
GeForce 9600m GT
OSX 10.9 (Mavericks)
