I have been scanning in all my CDs in preparation to uploading them to iCloud, but recently they haven't been recognized. ITunes doesn't start up like it used to when I insert a disc, and when I manually start it up there is no CD showing. The Eject command doesn't work either, but the button on my keyboard does work. I have rebooted the computer several times, but it doesn't make any difference. Any suggestions?

Same with Data CD's? Sounds like something is wrong with the Optical drive itself.
audio cd not working in itunes
I'm having trouble with playing or importing CD's in iTunes. The cd player recognizes data disc's but not audio disc;s.
I reset pram and it worked and then on next cd didn't work again.
I can't find anything about this not working.

I have is set to open iTunes. I had iTunes set to import when inserted. I have changed that to show cd.
Just doesn't seem to recognize audio cd's as I just tried my scanner cd and it appears as normal.
In the past I have imported audio cd's and they just kept reading and reading and reading but didn't import.
As I said I rebooted and reset pram and it worked on import for first cd and then second one just read and ejected. Now it just reads the audio for about a minute and ejects the audio cd.
I also set prefs to ignore on cd insertion and it reads some and then ejects.

I have music CD set to "Open iTunes". iTunes was set to Import, but I changed that to Begin Paling - neither works. I also tried a DVD and got no response - it is set to "Open DVD Player". I inserted a data CD and it did whirl and make noise for a while, but nothing happened.

Have you tried resetting pram on a restart? Sometimes that might help.
Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
someone said the hold the key down for four startup chimes.
Some other threads mentioned using compressed air to help clean the drive.

DavePe: Just out of curiosity, do your audio cd's and dvd's work in any other program in your iMac? This, to me at least, would be a basic question as well as some of the others asked in this thread.
Perhaps Quicktime for instance. This might tell us if it is the optical drive or not.
