Everything lies within the contracts which we sign. If you look into your contracts, and you don't see anything BUT the term unlimited, they ATT are responsible to live up to their contractual agreements.
This is why there are so many class action lawsuits in the U.S. And if ATT really tried to pull that stunt, ATT customers could most definitely both get out of their contracts, AND sue for breach of contract on ATT's part. All which is needed are NON lazy customers.
Consumers will win if they stand in large numbers and force the FCC and these corporations to take a step back and change their practices. This happened with MCI communications some years back, where before they went bust, their customers (self included) were able to get out of their contracts due to MCI breaking the stated terms of service. They of course were bought out, forget by whom.
ATT needs to have their asses whooped but good. I hope to see European practices take the place of the current U.S. ones as far as these things are concerned. It's a joke, really. The one huge eye opener for me since I moved to Europe is how incredibly behind the U.S. is with these things. It stifles technology and competition to the point of a stand still.
