Can we mac users be considered members of a cult?
With Steve (or should I say Lord Jobs) as spiritual leader or supreme overlord leading us to the path of righteousness, or the supreme state of consciousness.

I have read a little info about this from various sources over the past few months and I'm wondering what everyones views are on this.

Jobs is no leader of mine. He did bring Apple back from almost death and he has good ideas, but I like Macs and OSX because of the way they work FOR me and not against me. I do NOT worship any MAN no matter who it is. I do respect Jobs and some of his ideas, but that is where it ends for me. I do not follow everything Jobs says or does. Not in the least. I like the OS.

or should I say Lord Jobs

Lord Jobs?!?... Is Master Jobs!, unless of course you have already achieved 10th level, in that case you can call him Lord.

Yes and no.

The ambiguous way to go.

There are people that worship apple, but not all apple users are like that.

I remember seeing the key notes where Jobs announced that M$ was investing in Apple and making Office for Apple. The crowd just started booing left and right. If I am correct about this, isn't the keynote pretty much only accessable to professionals and press members? It seems like it was more of a crowd of fanatics because that wasn't very professional.

Who better than professionals know the ways of Microsoft?

Actually, that was tame. If you've ever seen on TV a House of Commons session from a country that uses the parliamentary system, especially during the free-for-all Question Period in Canada or Question Time in the U.K., these law-making "professionals" booing, hissing, yelling and insulting each other make that keynote look like a nursery-school spat.

Japan's parliament occasionally comes to blows.

And these people are supposed to be setting an example for the population.

The lord thy Steve will not be pleased about this at all! I'd stop now, else you'll face one of his fearsome plagues. You might be inclined to think of the death of your primary operating system would be the worst one, but in reality, it doesn't compare to the property damage from the plague of Newtons falling from the sky.

That means Newton could fall on an Apple!

I admire Jobs he is persistent, and came from humble beginnings. Using the Mac, back in the day was kinda of a sub culture. When I was a kid, I used to Apple club meetings. Looking back at it now, it did feel like secret society meetings.
Everywhere else people were using PCs, and you, during the late evenings, were using your Mac SE:Mischievous:
Now, I get less of that feeling. Living in NYC, I find lots of people using Macs. Especially go to Starbucks and one see many Macs :D

I don't think we're cult members, but I do think that some of us would be "fan-boys" (& girls). Most of us use Mac's because in one way, shape, or form, they meet our needs equally or better than a Windows-based PC. I don't think it's a cult, as there's no promises made or insinuations of light at the end of the tunnel... ;)

If you wanted to term us a cult, then I would be in serious trouble. I'd be a member of multiple cults at the same time - the VW cult, the Biodiesel cult, and the Mac cult. Beyond that I'd have some issues with my Protestant Christianity - for some reason being a member of a cult is frowned upon.

I think we ALL need to examine the definition of the word CULT, especially #s 2-6 and 10:

1. a particular system of religious worship, esp. with reference to its rites and ceremonies.
2. an instance of great veneration of a person, ideal, or thing, esp. as manifested by a body of admirers: the physical fitness cult.
3. the object of such devotion.
4. a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc.
5. Sociology. a group having a sacred ideology and a set of rites centering around their sacred symbols.
6. a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader.

7. the members of such a religion or sect.
8. any system for treating human sickness that originated by a person usually claiming to have sole insight into the nature of disease, and that employs methods regarded as unorthodox or unscientific.
–adjective
9. of or pertaining to a cult.
10. of, for, or attracting a small group of devotees: a cult movie.
