After installing Yosemite on my MacBook Pro I got a message saying I was running out of application memory. First time I have ever seen such a message. Any ideas? Thanks. Qball

It means that you're running short on memory which points to having too many applications open. Open up Activity Monitor and see what applications are hogging your memory.

Also let us know how much installed ram you have.

With each new update of OS X, you can almost count on that it will need more memory to run adequately - regardless of what Apple states. The good news is that Yosemite handles memory better than previous versions of OS X.

As a postscript, I backed up my files to a hard drive and did a clean reinstall. My old computer is now humming, as good as new.

Depending on your Mac, details not supplied, if possible boost memory up to 8GB.

A fresh install is always going to hum like new compared to an upgrade. I, and others, will often recommend a fresh install (after backing up) to clean up old cruft and prevent any old software from causing slowdowns or issues.
