Hi Nick,

GEEZ!!

Click on the "Untitled 1" link in my previous messages.
It works!

Joe

That "Untitled 1" photo is just a "zoomed" version of the photo in post #32. I already "zoomed" the photo in post #32...and when the photo is made bigger...everything just gets fuzzy. Which is exactly what the "Untitled 1" photo looks like...all fuzzy!:(

Unless you really want to try to use your computers built-in ethernet port (instead of the nubus ethernet card)...there's no reason to pursue this picture thing any longer...since it really is not important to your overall project of getting the ethernet card working.

Of course if you want to try to use your computers built-in ethernet port...I'm glad to try & help. If so, please post a better & larger photo where the details are clear.

Thanks,

- Nick

All the specs say 1stGen Powermacs have a AAUI port. Maybe thats an odd ball machine.

The ethernet adapter photo I posted a while back is for an AAUI port. I have a Powermac 7100/80, and the OP has a Powermac 7100/66. So unless there is a difference (OP claims to have an AUI ethernet port)...the photo of the adapter I posted earlier is what is needed to use the computers built-in ethernet port.

Here's the photo again for convenience:

Here is what an AAUI port looks like (connector on the left in the photo):

Here is what an AUI port looks like...I really don't think the OP's 7100 has this.

Okat Nick Thanks.
Sorry the photo thing didn't work out.

I'm gonna upgrade to OS 8 and maybe have better luck with the card.

Nick,

I notice on your picture that the AAUI port is on a card and not built into the chassis like mine is.

I have one of those adapters like yours and it can't plug into my biult-in ethernet port.

Joe,

Some of the pictures I posted are just stock photos from the internet...and I only used them so that we could have a clearer dialog on what exactly an AAUI & AUI port look like. I think that you are confusing the terms AAUI & AUI. In the photos I posted the AUI port example is on a card...NOT the AAUI!

ch2a5.gif

I am almost positive that your 7100 has an AAUI ethernet port...and you should be able to use one of the AAUI adapters pictured in the photos I posted previously.

Please read this review article of the Powermac 7100/66:

Power Macintosh 7100

You will clearly see where it lists the ports for the 7100/66...that the 7100/66 has an AAUI ethernet port & you need an AAUI adapter (see photos below).

Of course there is a small chance that I am mistaken (because you keep saying you have an AUI ethernet port). But until you post a good picture of your 7100/66's ports...we won't know for sure.

In any case...maybe upgrading to a version OS 8 will help to get that NuBus ethernet card of yours working.

Good luck,

- Nick

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the article and your continued interest in my situation.

Here are some pix of the rear of MY 7100.

I hope this helps.

What do you think?

Heyyyy...finally some good pictures!!!...although a couple of the close-up pics of the ethernet port are quite fuzzy!!!;) Ha Ha.

The built-in ethernet port is most DEFINITELY an AAUI port...and DEFINITELY would require the adapter I've been posting a picture of throughout this thread.

Since that ethernet port is "built-in"...it would most definitely work with any compatible version of the Mac OS that is compatible with the Powermac 7100. Of course the problem is finding one of those AAUI ethernet adapters (maybe on e-Bay).

But hey...try the OS 8 upgrade first & see if that gets your Nubus ethernet card to work. If not...using the built-in ethernet port could be plan "B".

Thanks again for the better pictures. LIke they say...a picture is worth a thousand words!:)

- Nick

p.s. I have an adapter for that weird 7100 built-in video port as well!;)

Hey Joe...are you on your 2nd case of beer or what!;)

That adapter you have is an AUI ethernet adapter...you need an AAUI adapter which is the one I posted a picture of about 50,000 times!;)

Compare these two adapters (the left connector in each photo)...they are way different:
