This is the most important paragraph in the article:

Apple will likely continue to offer security and usability updates for older models, but the writing’s on the wall for any Intel running Mac currently on sale. If you’re looking to buy one of those machines today, you should be aware that you could be boxed out of using all those exciting new features announced at future WWDCs. Hey, you might even run out of new OSes to install in the not-too-distant future.

Gheese... Apple has been doing this for years with their "new and improved features", many of which only work on the most recent compatible machines, so what's new...???

And I won't bother mentioning the fact they seem to still like removing some features from a lot of their later software, a lot of which I preferred and do still use.

I sure haven't noticed a lot of "new features" that I could use or that interest or help me when I read over some of the latest new features in the latest Mac OS versions. And "improved translucency and rounded window edges and newer plain icons..." really do not excite me or help improve by Mac operations thanks.

Of course, some users must keep up to the latest and greatest, especially when their work or institution demands. That doesn't always apply to a lot of us Mac users, especially us older senior types, and there seem to be quite a few of us around still. 😉

I agree this is "not new" and assuming Intel devices still remain secure (updated) there is no problem with that but security has become much more of an issue (challenge) these days.
Is this like 2005 when Apple switched from Power PC processors to Intel Processors?
What's different?
I think it's fair to say the privacy landscape has changed a lot and "innovative" changes seem to be coming thicker and faster than before. Apple's change to APFS then 64bit only applications now a new integrated M1 chip soon to be replaced by an M2 or M1X.
It seems like change is the key word here.
