Black MacBook with Leopard! YAY!
Christmas

OK, really now folks how much money do you, your parents, your friends etc. spend on Christmas at the most? In the hundreds (iPhone) or in the the thousands? (iMac with leopard)I think the answer most would give is hundreds. thats how it has always been in my family! So why wouldn't apple delay the iPhone till Christmas time instead of Leopard? I think that way would make way more money don't you?
(sorry if this is a little late in the conversation or if it has already been said i didn't have time to read all of the posts)

this is pretty pathetic. I've been waiting for Leopard before buying my first Mac.

I hope the iphone bombs.

I am not a business genius, but, a iphone that is a success is good for all mac users. correct me if i am wrong, but I think apple was in trouble before the ipod arrived, thank goodness for the success of the ipod because i would hate to think of a computing world with just ms xp or vista!

the main reason I am switching to apple/mac is because of my good luck with my 5g ipod and the apple store, I had a small issue with the click wheel on the ipod , and the apple store exchanged it on the spot with zero hassle! Good luck with that kind of support anywhere else., does HP,Dell, or any other oem have the kind of service where you can bring Your product in for support?

I will NOT be buying a iphone , but I will be getting a mac, even though i live here in microsoft land!
GO MAC & Apple!!

LOL, you think Cingular has the upper hand? They don't. Cingular wouldn't have a choice but to say "OK". Any of the other carriers would be happy to take their place.

Really... cause I remember Verizon turning down the deal first...

I remember reading that rumor as well, and in light of all the press the iPhone seems to have drawn since its announcement, I'll bet they're really regretting that move. But to be honest, I can't imagine why Apple would have even considered Verizon, considering that they're still married to CDMA and haven't even begun to look at GSM. Considering that Qualcomm is really the only manufacturer of cell chips still in that game, that would really lock Apple into the NA market almost exclusively and to one chipset manufacturer.

Either way, don't get me wrong - Verizon's service and phones tend to be of very high quality, despite the crippled firmware. I started with AT&T/Cingular as my first phone and would never even consider switching back to that network. IMO, voice quality is an order of magnitude better than what I've experienced with GSM phones (still can't get that memory/impression of hearing the echo of my own voice on the GSM networks) - and EVDO data speeds are amazing when you're in range. But I digress... sorry to go OT.

Verizon declined out of fear of the wrath of Microsoft. :bomb:

What if Apple had never told anyone about Leopard, but developed it in secret? In that case this thread wouldn't exist, no-one would be stamping their feet at this moment, and in October everyone would be cock-a-hoop.

Sure, but you can't do that with a fresh OS. You need to tell developers in advance so they can update their software and get ready to take advantage of the new features.

If you're going to call people childish, at least master elementary school math first.

June to October is 4 months, 122 days, more than 17 weeks. I can provide a dictionary reference for the word "few" as well, if you need it.

Apple is a company that survives, in no small part, off of a huge fanbase. When you create and nurture expectations among those fans, and then blow them off in favor of a different market, it's understandable if those fans are annoyed.

If you blow them off in the same exact way as your major competitor did (delaying a release), right after you got finished lambasting that competitor for doing so, then you look particularly silly.

There are people waiting to buy their next Mac until Leopard comes out. Some of the features promised might not be important to you but that doesn't mean everyone else feels the same way. Calling people "childish" just because they have a different opinion from yours is, well, childish.

I just have to say a little something about the Cingular situation. I don't think other carriers will be beating down Apple's door, especially since one even turned Apple down, which is not a rumor. I also highly doubt you will see any unlocked iPhones unless they are unlocked illegally. The way Apple is making certain feature work exclusively with Cingular means that even if you can unlock one, you'll be badly hindered by lack of features.

I have Cingular, and when I lived in certain other areas, it was the best service I ever had. No dropped calls ever, just like they say, and crystal clear calls. Now I moved to Indianapolis and the service here is terrible. But even when I go to other parts of IN the service is fine again. I think it depends on where you are really. I would like an iPhone, if I have money to burn, the virtual keyboard actually works and they can fix their horrible mistake of not making the thing 3/3.5G.

end rant response.
