Hi, I'm looking at buying my first mac (as soon as leopard gets out). I keep reading about mac fiability so do you guys think it's a good idea to buy an applecare with an Imac?

I'm always more concerned with laptops than desktop computers. With a laptop you can drop it...the drives can get damaged a lot easier and so I always think Applecare is a good investment and a must for Mac Books. Just my opinion though. I frankly got my moneys worth...

With an iMac I'm not so sure it's worth the money. Maybe others have ideas.

I dont think it would hurt, worst case scenario is that you buy the applecare and never need it.

I purchased the applecare with my new mac book pro just b/c knowing me something will go wrong and I will need it. So in my opinion it's a good investment.

I see a lot of replies to this type of question, and seem to always see a few people say something about dropping a Macbook. I was at an Apple Store yesterday (looking to buy my first mac) and asked if applecare covers accidental damage, and they said no, manufacturers defects only.
Is there something I don't know?

I'm not sure you have to tell them you dropped it. :)

It just isn't working...same with the disk drive.

I'd strongly recommend doing a search on this topic. You'll find lots of info.
