I got the monthly email about my apple savings account related to the virtual Apple Card. When I went to check my balance which it showed me, it also said your savings account is locked. I called the number displayed, and a heavily accented voice told me I needed to change my Apple ID password. I asked for a supervisor. After a longish delay with loud music playing a supervisor came join the line, also with a thick accent. He said the same thing. They claimed to be Goldman Sachs employees. I said I thought this was a scam and hung up.

It certainly sounds like a scam. Never reveal or change your Apple ID password. Moreover, Apple does NOT ask you for a password or to change IDs.

As long as you didn't give away any personal info or PWs, then you are probably in the clear.

Also, never pay any attention to a phone number which is displayed. If you do need to phone or contact a legitimate site, make sure that you look up their real number or email address. Don't go along with their suggestions.

I've never gotten an email about the balance in Apple Cash, if that is what you mean. So, as Ian says, it was most likely a scam and you were good to hang up. How does this "locked" status show up? Are you talking about the balance in Wallet on your iPhone?

Where did you get the phone number from? In the email, or on a website?

I have a savings account through apple card account. I have any daily cash automatically deposited in it. I have had it about 2 years now. I have never gotten an email from them ever. I just checked and it all looks fine. As others have said it was a scam and if there is any chance someone has your apple id - change it.

Sounds like a phishing attempt to me. As they wanted you to change your Apple ID password they obviously don't know what it is no doubt the next step would have involved offering you an "easy" way of changing it via a link they provide.
This is the way things are now, they (scammers) knew your email and account balance and this is supposed to convince you that you are contacting the "real" provider, the next step is to ask you to confirm something they don't actually know, like your address or age. In this way they piece together your profile and if they get really lucky access to your bank account.
The same old rule holds true for all cases, banks, financial institutions, online subscriptions whatever, they all say the same thing essentially, they will never ask you for any personal information via email, SMS or social media. The other thing is never click on any link from such a message that might take you to a fake "Ghost" site and I think the same applies to phone numbers.

I'm not sure about the emails. I have Apple Card and I get a notification about Apple Cash deposits. As a savings account, there must be a monthly statement like any other savings account but can't speak to the specifics.
