I came upon a similar story in a magazine my friend got from the CES convention. To summarize, Apple essentially is driving their independent retailers out of business by expanding their Apple corporate stores across America. However, the independent Apple resellers that have been able to survive cater to a different consumer segment, i.e high end users rather than consumers. The shame of this to me is that many of these Apple resellers have stuck through with Apple since the beginning and have continually dealt with slimmer margins that Apple hardware offer. Trust me I know b/c i tried to get a hookup from a friend and he told me how slim the profit margins on ibooks are. It's sad how corporate America is squeezing out the smaller guys.
