I don't think that Apple is releasing a TV, I think that that particular article just isn't worded very well. By "display" I think it means product display. Quote from the article:

"The display will showcase the Apple TV hooked up to a very nice Sony Bravia (just like they did at Macworld), and will no doubt cause Apple TV lust to develop in the hearts of passers by", according to TUAW.

So apparently the Apple TV unit will be hooked into a Sony Bravia HDTV for display purposes. I am interested to see what Apple is planning on doing with their LCD display line...they don't seem to be advertising them in their store anymore, you actually have to go and search for them to find them.

i wouldnt be surprised if they dont pay much attention to them.

Their display line is a joke. They don't even include VGA ports, and their prices are beyond reach for most. I can get a 20" Dell display of the same quality as the 20" Apple, with a VGA, for $220. Apple should smarten up, because they're essentially forcing their customers to look elsewhere when buying a display.

There really is no excuse to charge $699.00 for a 20 inch widescreen display.

I've found Apple displays to be very overpriced. You're essentially paying for styling to match with you Mac computer. That wouldn't be so bad if the premium was just a tad bit more than comparable displays, but a several hundred dollar markup is just ridiculous.

If I'm not mistaken, the 30" Dell is $600-$700 less than the 30" Apple. That's awful, and I can't believe anyone would ever get the Apple one purely because it matches. It doesn't even make sense that the 30" Apple display costs the same as the 24" iMac, considering the iMac is a computer!

I really wish there was something that could be done. The Apple displays are over-priced and lack many features. I think they're the weakest part of Apple's product line.

i agree, pretty doesn't cut it in my book, especially when the features are less for more money. i don't recall who makes them now, but i remember when the dell and apple LCD panels were made by the same company. (at least the 20" WS model was)

The 23" and 30" aren't as bad as the 20" when you compare them to similar specs from other brands. Look is very inportant to me and while I would never buy the 20" display I would definitely go for a 23" or 30". As a graphics professional VGA is not an option I'd consider anyway.

I've got a dell 24" and apple lent me a 23" cinema display, i had them side by side, and although the apple had a better colour reproduction, the dell is a lot less noisy and clearer.

Yeah, Apple displays are about the only Apple product I would never waste my money on. I'm used to paying more for Apple products, but the difference for the displays is just disgusting.

Only the Dell Ultrasharp models have the same LCD as Apple (I think they're made by Samsung or Phillips), but the other Dell models, like the smaller 20" use a different, cheaper LCD. There is a huge difference.

But even the Dell Ultrasharp models are cheaper and have more functionality than Apple. I really don't understand why people like to throw away extra money on them. To me, a smaller black bezel is a much cleaner, nicer look than a big silver bezel.

the displays are meant for professional photographers and videographers where picture quality has to be as high as possible. From my experiences of doing both on a semi-pro level...i've yet to see anything that compares to an apple display. other then for those purposes...they are over priced :)

Kutless is right about this, When I do photoediting I actually use 4 different displays to edit each photo because all displays have inherent flaws in their design and it depends on what type of display, LCD,CRT,PLASMA,PROJECTION, ya know...

At least the apple displays don't sound like they're going to snap when you tilt them.

That is complete b**ocks. they've just taken a marketing picture from apple tv and stated that Apple will be somehow making or endorsing Sony displays.

Come on guys, get it together!

First I dont think apple will release a T.V./Display for use as a television, any time soon. I fell that the apple tv is a trial to see how they will do in the home entertainment industry. Secondly where can you get a 20 inch dell display for $220. I just bought a 24 inch, and looked at the 20s and they where $399 for the ultrasharp. But i still agree that dell displays are just as good for less :mac:

I was about to say after two Dell laptops, I would never buy anything from Dell again, but come to think of it the displays were the only parts of said laptops that were really great and never gave me any trouble.
