I am a new Mac user. Can somebody answer these questions? Somehow it appears I have installed AntiVirus Sentinel Pro. What is this? Is it a real software? Should I keep it or try to uninstall it?

Thanks

You do not need it. It is an anti-virus app that is not necessary.

I would suggest you download from the App Store the free app AppCleaner and use it to uninstall it. AppCleaner will get all the files associated with it.

If you want to protect yourself from issues on the internet I suggest adding as extensions to your browser, Ghostery and AdBlock Plus. I also have added Privacy Badger recently and it seems to be working well. Most issues will be blocked by the above extensions but it also helps to download Malwarebytes for Mac and run it periodically or when you have the rare issue.

Sentinel Pro is a $9.99 Mac App Store purchase, so not sure how you managed to install it without realizing that you're buying the software..:)

Please do a search for anti-virus software on this forum to get our stance on it. There is a ton of information on it here..

Hello & welcome to the forum! :) You've already received great information about NOT using AV software on your Mac - now, I'm not sure since this is your first post whether you are 'new' to Apple computers & software; if so, another word of advice, i.e. do NOT install any of the 'Mac cleaners' that are frequent ads and/or pop-ups - a notorious one is MacKeeper - about the only maintenance app recommended here is Onyx - the link will take you to their official web site (only go there!) and if you are interested make sure that you download the version specific to your OS X. Good luck - Dave

And remember these things, AV software, cleaners etc., are sold through the App Store and other places to make a buck, not to make your computer better or safer. There are no mac OS X viruses, but some malware. Download Malwarebytes for Mac free of charge.

A paid app has been installed onto your device but you don't know about this. It' really amazing. It's might be possible if the app is for free. Really amazing!

Actually Apple is just being true to their word that they want to make any user updates or installs as easy and painless as possible and just trust them with any purchase from their App Store.

Yeah right, as always, it all just comes down to money!! :(

Not amazing. He/she admitted they're a new Mac user and may not be familiar with how the Mac App Store works.
