an app to create and modify fonts?

Hello!

I'm looking for an app to create and modify fonts.

I already downloaded FontForge but the installer did nothing.
I also donwloaded fontographer but the demo version is limited (it doesn't allowd saving and exporting) and the prize is too high!

Ideas?

It lets you create custom textual graphics, fills, shadows, glow and background colors. It sells for $30.00.
