I have an older Mac desk top that still runs great, normally no problems. For the last month or so getting the Amazon website has been difficult, kind of hit or miss. Nor it is almost impossible, yesterday it took over an hour to reach the website. Once I am there I can log in and everything is fine. All other websites I use load with little issue. I have searched far and wide, tried everything recommended . I even spoke with Amazon help desk yesterday after placing my order. Allother phones computers in the house can reach Amazon without a problem.

Running 10.15.7

Any advice suggestions would be appreciated.

The problem may be with Safari. Try installing Firefox or Brave - Amazon may work better there.

Not enough information.

What browser are you using? All browsers have a timeout when they can't access a site, it's usually about 30 seconds, it doesn't fail after an hour, so that makes no sense.

Many sites use things that aren't supported by really old browsers, and a lot of that is backward compatible but not everything. So visiting sites with really old browsers might cause glitchy behavior depending on the site.

Any browser running in Catalina wouldn't be 'really old'.

I have no idea if you are still having troubles or not as I haven't seen any recent update since you're post yesterday.

But if you ever need to find out whether it is them or you that is having the problem or creating the problem you can check any of the several sites that keep track of whether the site is online or not such as:

There you can usually check out what Amazon outages reported in the last 24 hours.

Or check out any of the other money online checking sites with a quick Google search

My how time flies, Catalina is 5 years and 7 months old, a LOT has happened to web sites and their security measures in that time, especially top online retail sites like Amazon and eBay. I'd go with Loyd's post #2. Try a compatible version of a later browser like Firefox or Brave.

Catalina may be 5 years old, but it can run browsers a lot more recent than those that were around when it was released, possibly some current ones.
