Nice pics! That is, by far, the most beautiful piece of machinery I have ever seen.

What ever happened to the one that was made for vertical take-off and landing? I watched a great documentary on it's development, but haven't seen any in use.

I believe what you are talking about was the JSF developed by boeing. They made a few prototypes like the ones you saw in the documentary but the air force decided to cut the funding for the project so Boeing abandoned it. But yeah, it did have vertical take-off and landing plus a ton of other cool features.

Nope. The JSF project went through all of the hoops and Lockheed won the completion but Boeing is actually a sub-contractor for the project (they are making the wings). The JSF has been designated the F-35 Lightning II by the way.

That's the one. Awesome plane. I hope it proves to be useful.

Great video too. I love how body parts of the Ford began ripping off almost immediately.
