Hi guys,

A while back I created a 100MB capacity .sparseimage file that I could password protect, where I could store some sensitive files.

I haven't opened it in a while, and now, when I open the disk and correctly type in the password, I am just shown a blank disk with no files on it (see attached 'picture 1').

It might be the case that I moved all of the files off the disk (I can't remember), but if I click on 'get info', it shows there are still 61MB used on the disk (see attached 'picture 2'). Which makes me think they might be there somewhere, I just can't see them.

Is there a way I could have hidden them? Does anyone know how I might reveal them? Or is there another explanation for why it appears as though 61MB of capacity is being used?

Would really appreciate any help. Cheers!

While it is possible to have hidden the files, here’s how to show hidden files, How to Show Hidden Files on MacOS with a Keyboard Shortcut, maybe your trashed the files, but didn’t empty the trash?

Hi ferrarr,

Weirdly, I have just looked in my trash, and all of the files that I thought would be in the sparseimage file were there.

I have no idea how they got there, because the last time I opened that sparseimage file was years ago, and I looked in my trash a few days ago for a different reason - and definitely didn't see all those files. Something must have happened that I've missed.

Anyway - thanks a lot for the suggestion.

When you either eject a disk (image) or the disk is not mounted, it will not show the files from that disk, in the Trash. Each disk has it’s own Trash.
