Hi pals! :D

We're already giving support for the unix-core systems in the university, and recently the number of mac-users had been grown considerably, then we're planning to assist them too, we've never had contact with the mac OSX operating system, then we have some questions...
  1. Can we mount a mac OSX (leopard or tiger) mirror on a ftp server, just as linux does?
  2. The MacOSX firewall can be modified by applescripts?
  3. Can we install a genuine copy of Leopard on any intel-based computer (not just a mac)? (Not using a hacked image)

I don't understand exactly what you mean. If you want to access an FTP site, yes, that's no problem. If you're trying to set up some kind of synchronization with an FTP server, I'm certain that can be done as well, albeit with 3rd party utilities like psyncx. Since OS X is based on FreeBSD, a UNIX-variant, it should be quite familiar to anyone with a working knowledge of Linux.

The MacOSX firewall can be modified by applescripts?

Yes.

No. Apple's EULA forbids installation of OS X on non-Apple hardware. Although there are parties that have hacked OS X to install on other hardware, it is neither legal nor possible without hacking (and since we don't discuss illegal activity on this forum, this topic is really not open for further discussion here).

The mirror is only with installation update/upgrade purposes via network. We want to stablish the oss and non-oss mirrors in our ftp servers, in order to update quickly.

OK, you're looking to push OS installs and updates out to your clients. If that's the case, I don't believe OS X has remote installation services.

I think all of those are a no. But do not give up on Mac. They're very productive.
