2012 iMac 27, Should I Reinstall Thermal Paste? Upgrade SSD to SP A55 drive or stick with Apple 750gb drive?

Should I leave well enough alone or should I swap out the thermal compound? Additionally I was told that I should upgrade my SSD to a more modern SP A55 Solid State Drive over the Apple 750gb SSD already in the machine as it will be faster (not actually sure this is true). This imac was purchased refurbished in the U.S. (which I am told refurbish means they could have just wiped it down with a cloth).

Are you experiencing any issues? Asking "out of the blue" if you should replace the thermal compound is unusual.

Probably better to do some research first before replacing. But if you were looking for more internal storage...then that can be a different matter.:)

If this was purchased refurbished from Apple this would not be the case. But if purchased from somewhere else...yes...there's really no set standard for what "refurbished" means exactly.

If you were to go ahead & replace the SSD...then you might as well replace the thermal paste while you're in there (assuming you have the tools & skills to do it carefully).:)

No, no issues. Someone just suggested it somewhere. They said since its been 8 years it might be a good idea. Since this is a new to me computer I just want to preserve it to the best of my ability since I will be holding onto it for a very long time. It was refurbished from a company called Experimax fwiw. Thanks for your reply!

"If it ain't broke" Still applies. The machine is 8 years old and not getting any younger. Leave well enough alone and use it as long as you can without spending $$$ on it.

Apologies...I completely forgot you purchased this "refurbished"...thus you don't know it's history. Sounds like you must have gotten this recently...I think that was one detail that was missing from post #1 (how long you've had it).:)

Yeah I left out that detail. Yes this is new to me. Just purchased a week ago.
