make sure to keep a current backup of the system that way if anything goes wrong you got something to fall back on,

id recommend a reinstall then if you are using ethernet already

as it would rule out any corrupt files or settings somewhere

So I set up another User Account but also with that the problem remains.

Just to be sure...did you boot into that new user account...or booted into the regular Admin account as usual? If the problem remains after setting up a new user account & booted into it...then I would say that the issue is not hardware or software...but something external to your computer.

Which of course may not be true...since you said you can do online purchases successfully with your MacBook Air (unless your iMac and MacBook Air are not setup the same).

I still say something on your iMac either software or OS related is the issue...and since you were able in the past to do online purchases sucessfully.

p.s. As far as Onyx. The procedure should have been:

- Download Onyx.
- Install Onyx.
- Launch Onyx.
- Click on Onyx "Automation" button.
- Click on "Run Tasks" button.

If you clicked on the "Run Tasks" button. Then you did it correctly.:)

I signed off my regular (admin) account and signed into my new user account. Did I do this correctly? Also, an hour after I deleted my New User account it still says "Deleting account and Users & Groups preferences is removing a user account and saving the Home directory to a disk image.

I have a 1 TB SSD that is about 20% used. I Forced Quit the User Account Deletion. I am doing a System Recovery now (not from the internet).

ok so based on it being an SSD it shouldn't be slow in that sense,

it does sound like there is some files that are messed up.

ok that will do the same thing anyway I believe the difference being if it was on a USB Stick you could reformat the drive and start again

but that's not needed in this case let it run and see how it goes

Well, after the System Recovery, so far all is fine. I have gone to the payment page on one of the sites that chronically crashed and so far it is working. I haven't actually made a purchase but I have been successful in opening pages that crashed previously. Stay tuned and thanks for all the help.

If you're back into your regular account...you're good to go.

Also, an hour after I deleted my New User account it still says "Deleting account and Users & Groups preferences is removing a user account and saving the Home directory to a disk image.

Since you have an SSD internally (fast)...this sounds like a software/software conflict issue of some sort.

I am running an SSD that is about 3yrs old and 20% used so hopefully that is not the issue.

I corrected myself. Missed the detail about the iMac having an SSD.:)

I still like to troubleshoot issues like this with an external drive with a fresh/virgin install of the macOS on it (boot the computer from the external drive). This way you can determine if there's some sort of software/software conflict on the internal drive. And if the issues remain when booting from this external drive setup...then you know you probably do have a hardware issue of some sort.

There is one other issue. Since the Apple rep had me make numerous changes waking from sleep can take over 30 seconds. Previously it was almost instantaneous. is there a setting for this?

Should be instant...like you experienced previously. I can't even imagine what changes the Apple rep had you do to cause wake from sleep to take 30 seconds.

Here's another idea to try & see if you see any changes...boot your computer into "Safe Mode":

So,I booted into SAFE Mode. Tried to wake from a sleep and still takes about 30 seconds to awake. Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for trying Safe Mode. Since this iMac has an SSD vs. an HD (many times HD's being mechanical they can fail)...what about the iMac's RAM? How much RAM is installed & what is the RAM configuration?

Also...it's not impossible for SSD's to go bad as well. Having a known good external drive to troubleshoot with might help.

Finally...I believe 2011 iMac's have a PRAM/NVRAM battery...maybe it needs to be replaced.
