MacBook cracking while opening - YouTube

idk why its doing this, its like rubbing against the back end when i open it.. help please!, im sick of hearing it when i open it, been doing it for a year now.

Two things:

1. With the MacBook display closed...look very closely at the whole hinge area for cracks in the plastic.

2. When you're opening or closing the display...look VERY closely at the hinge area (from in front & from behind)...to see if any plastic in that area is flexing, bending, or binding.

From the sound of it & because this only happens when opening it...I'm willing to bet that you have some damage in the hinge area (broken or cracked plastic).

well, I showed it in the video, idk if you can really see it but, the top part is hitting the bottom part, cuz when i lift it with my hand a little when i open it that side doesnt crack, so it must have somehow moved down.

I watched your video before I posted above. What you mention is not easily seen. But if noticed this BEFORE you posted your question...then you really did know what was causing the problem/noise...and already had your answer before posting.;)

The bottom line is...you have some sort of broken or loose plastic that's catching when the MacBook display is opened. You have four choices:

- get it fixed
- try a "DIY" fix (like taping or gluing the loose plastic so it doesn't catch)
- live with it like you have for the past year!;)
- or sell it

hahahaha yeah but i was just saying.

I don't wanna sell it at all my dad bought it for me 3 years ago for 1200 and i love the macbook, it was my first laptop and ill probably keep it for life, even after it slows down and i get a new one, but, i just looked and theres no loose plastic, its just that the display part is down more than usual and a little off, because it fell off my bed before, and its been cracking ever since,

but.. do you think if i bring it into the apple store that I can get it fixed there?

I think that we both know that the fall off the bed probably caused the problem (no problem before the fall...then problem after the fall).;)

Something is definitely broken...or probably just cracked. And when the display is opened...the stress/pressure required to open it is causing the broken/cracked part to flex or expand...causing the rubbing and/or clicking.

but.. do you think if i bring it into the apple store that I can get it fixed there?

Of course the Apple Store can fix it...they can fix just about anything with a new part.:) The question's are...how much will this cost & are you willing to pay it!;)

If your question is will the Apple Store fix it for free...maybe...maybe not. Just go in...and give it a shot!:)
