2007 MBP 15 inch

before i begin, don't want to hear i have an old mbp, it's non updatabe etc. it works for my needs

i picked up a 2007 mbp 15" for cheap recently. it works fine, upgraded to yosemite and its running ok.

it's 7 years old and still alive. can i assume the gpu is ether ok, or at some point in the past been fixed? is there a place i can enter the serial number and see if t was repaired in the past. from all the threads i've read, most failure happened wthin a few years of production. just curious.

I don't think so. At least I've never heard of such a place. This sort of info would really only be maintained by Apple (since Apple would be doing the repair). And there's really no reason or benefit for Apple to make this info public.

Just use the computer until it no longer meets your needs. I realize that your logic is…if it was repaired it may last longer. But if it craps out…it craps out. The computer (due to age) could fail for other reasons as well (not just the video issue).
