i woke up this morning to pull my fully charged 15" 2.33 ghz macbook pro off the charger, it was sleeping.. and as i woke it up... it shut off.. restarted my computer.. i heard the mac sound on startup... than it switched off.. so i attached my charger too it.. started up fine.. but i noticed that the mag safe charger light is green, instead of the orange color.. and the battery symbol up top is a different symbol than it used to be... so i proceeded to pull the power adaptor out... and she shuts off automatically... anyone have any ideas what can cause this and how to fix before i go shipping out my battery to apple? i use my macbook pro for work and i will be screwed waiting on another battery.. also, can i do an exchange at an apple store? any input is glady appreciated. thanks!

Welcome to Mac-Forums, Four Two 0.

Sorry to hear about your problems with your MacBook Pro. Maybe you could check to see if your portable is on this list, 15-inch MacBook Pro Battery Exchange Program.

If it isn't, maybe you could try these troubleshooting procedures:

Resetting MacBook and MacBook Pro System Management Controller (SMC)

MacBook and MacBook Pro: Battery not recognized after being fully drained

Troubleshooting: My computer won't turn on

Good luck and let us know how these went for you. :girl:

nope none of the above worked. thank you very much for the input. i guess i got to deal with apple... is there a way i can get a battery exchange at my local apple store? if so that would be alot less of a hassle..

You haven't said exactly when you bought your Mac but if it is under warranty, then you have no problem at all in getting a new battery, I would think.

Well i have a change of plans as of 15 mins ago. by accident i knocked the magsafe adaptor out of the computer. i thought it would shut down but it did not.. it is back to normal, but i ran a script to chck and this is what i got, it is kinda weird , note my power adaptor is off my laptop. it may be because i got lucky, or this is a bad deal waiting to happen, note that it is 76% remaining on the battery :)

Battery: battery not installed, above warning level
Charger: charger not connected, not charging
UPS: UPS not installed
System:
Voltage: 0.000V
Current: 0.000A
Charge: 0.000Ah of 0.000Ah

I'm using a 17" MacBook Pro and I'm experiencing the same problem. I need the mobility but when I unplug the mag safe...you know what happens.
