I have many browsers, mainly for checking compatiblity on my sites.

I have Camino, Opera, Firefox, Safari and IE for Mac (I only have that to look how bad it is)

They have all crashed up to 3 times since I got 10.4.10. This is ridiculous. Adium has also crashed.

I have run Disk Utility. Done the Cron script thing, and they still crash.

For the love of God, if you haven't got it yet, DO NOT GET THE 10.4.10 UPDATE.

i wish I wouldn't have done the update. I'm having the same issues with programs that used to be stable crashing - Safari and Aperture to name a couple.

Sorry to hear about your problems, but boy am I glad that I held off on this update. Crashing apps, popping noises from the speakers...somebody really dropped the ball in quality testing this thing.

I haven't had any issues with the update, either. Everything appears nominal with no ill effects to report.

No issues here on my Quad, iBook, the wife's CD iMac or my kids older G4 iMac.

Seems to me that there is no rhyme or reason to where or when these issues are cropping up and there seems to be no consistency to it. Saying your happy you held off doesn't mean much since from what I have seen and read around the web so far the majority of users has experienced no issues with this update.

What do we do about the crashing of programs several times a day (safari, entourage, photoshop, dreamweaver --- are my big ones)

The crashes have stopped now. I haven't got any new updates though so I don't know why.

One thing I might throw out there... people having problems with 10.4.10, have you by chance tried installing the combo update rather than the delta update?

For all updates, I unplug all peripherals and then update.

But I read somewhere that it was better to start in Safe Mode and always update with the Combo Updaters which I did this time. I have no problems whatsoever with 10.4.10.

The reason behind stating in Safe Mode is that no apps at all will be open while the updater is running and it clears your system of unnecessary cache files and other stuff.

And the Combo Updaters do more checks and fixes on the system then the delta updaters do.

So that is what I will due from now on. :)

I did the combo earlier today and I haven't used my mac much since then but I will see how it goes.

Can someone tell my how to run in safe mode (thought that was just a Windows thing) and choose combo update? All I know is what Apple sends me. Is there a way to install again after I've already done it?

The popping is driving me crazy and my Safari, Firefox and Adobe Reader have been crashing all night! Luckily my Office programs have remained stable as I have been working on a very long, important paper.

How to boot into safe mode:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393

Get the Combo update from here:

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10410comboupdateintel.html

Simply open the disk image and double click the installer inside to run it (if Safari doesn't automatically do it for you; I forget whether it does). Also, you might want to repair Disk Permissions after doing this. To do so, simply spotlight "Disk Utility"; it should be the first result. Then click on your hard drive in the sidebar on the left and click the button "Repair Disk Permissions." When it's done, you can quit the program.
