unable to use Photoshop CS3, version 10.0.1

iMac 10.11.6, also ipad
I use an iMac OS X El Capitan, version 10.11.6
I stopped using Photoshop for a year and now when I open it and try to open a JPG image nothing happens but beachballs....what can I do?
