That was bugging me also as my 2.4 Ghz C2D iMac with 4GB RAM runs and installs Mavericks. Exactly what Mac model is your C2D 2.4 Ghz?

You guys (everyone) are saints for sticking with this!

IF the iMac can run the Mac App Store, then he can download *but not install* Mavericks free on his iMac. He could then use a free tool like Diskmaker X to create a bootable Mavericks USB thumb drive, boot from it on his MacBook Air and install Mavericks, all perfectly legal.

Chas, just tried it on my C2D iMac late 2006 with 10.6.8. No go. The store says when I try and download, Purchase can not be completed, OSX Mavericks can not be installed on this computer. It checks the Mac first and will not allow the download.

Yes guys, to confirm, I am looking into creating the bootable mavericks on my macbook which is C2D 2.4 with 4GB Ram. This also does not make any sense to me as this link from Apple shows, my mac is a 2009 and Mavericks should install:
OS X Mavericks: System Requirements

Since I can't download [without installing] Mavericks on my macbook then I can't use the Diskmaker X to create the bootable drive?

Black plastic Macbook A1181, I had bought this from an IT Company in Manhattan, the guy had told me it's a 2010 but I think it is a 2009.

Mike, they did not tell you the proper date. Yours is a early 2008 Penryn Macbook Black. Early 2008 was the last of the Black Macbook.

MacBook (Early 2008) | Low End Mac

That model will not run Mavericks.

I am still trying to find a way for you. Will get back asap!

I am assuming you are referring to the problem Macbook Air which I am trying to load Mavericks? If so, the problem is I am not able to get to the Disk Utility.

Not only is this a 2008 MacBook (not 2009 or 2010)...but the max. OS on it is 10.7.5. So it won't run 10.8 or 10.9 (Mavericks).

As far as ANYTHING Mavericks related...don't even think about using this computer.

Mike...I hate to say it...but you've got this thread totally "jacked-up"!:( You've got us discussing two different computers with two different problems...and I think many folks are getting very very confused.

I would suggest focusing on one computer & one problem...and we can move on from there.:)

Thanks,

Yeah I can see that, maybe it's time I tell the owner to take it to my friend''s store and I can try to get Mavericks whenever I can on a disc or flash drive for future similar situations.

If we are talking about this 2008 MacBook...nothing can be done...this computer cannot run Mavericks.:(

If we are talking about the newer MacBook Air mentioned in this thread. Tell the owner to take it to an Apple Store...and the Apple folks will help get Mavericks installed on it.:)

This is the one problem with downloadable only OS's...especially if the computer is too new to run Snow Leopard (the last OS sold on disk).

If the computer "craps-out" in some way (no OS installed or recovery partition is not accessible)...the only way to reinstall the OS (10.7, 10.8, or 10.9) is to have a self-made bootable installer. This needs to be made at the time of download. This sort of situation is not super common...but it does happen.

I have a bootable USB stick installer of 10.7, 10.8, and 10.9. Comes in REAL HANDY in some situations.:)

Ok, I have the menu up now, I am in disk utility, I do not want to mess anything up so I will wait for instructions if you won't mind please? I am seeing two items in the left pane, the HDD which shows 500.28 GB APPLE SSD S... and below that disk1 Mac OSX Base system. WHat should I do next please?

I have never done a restore off the net but if it's like all other OSX installs you close Disk Utility then a prompt should come up. let us know what you see when you close DU!
