imho - researching a piece of electronics that you do not plan to buy for a year - is still virtually a waste of time and the effort it takes to make a real purchasing decision. As soon as you've made the choice on what to buy, the whole scene of what's available will be turned upside down. There is likely not a single model that you look at today that's even going to be on the shelves a year from now.
Staying abreast of the technology is a good idea as that will lead to a lesser amount of research when you are ready to buy. But the research itself as to what's the best one today for your personal use and functionality is best done at the time you're ready to walk into the store and lay down your cash.
