They don't trust them implicitly vansmith and certainly not deltas as big as this one.

There was a lot of head shaking the moment I mentioned 'Software Update', and the impression I got was that it was as if, allegedly , Apple are pushing out Beta versions and then fixing everything in the combo if there are any issues. That is my own opinion of course but a conclusion I came to nonetheless.

I have just updated to Lion 10.7.3 and I now have problems re-connecting to WiFi when waking up from 'Sleep'. Everything was fine before but now after the update my week old iMac is not working properly.

Has any one else had this problem and have you managed to fix it?

Same here and the same with many other folks. (Check the Apple user forums) Apple posted the Airport fix in 10.7.3 but it looks like it also "broke" what was previously working OK. I'm not sure if it's a problem only with an iMac (I also have a 2011 iMac) as I have not had a chance to test it on my MacBook yet.

It doesn't do it all the time but often enough to be annoying. As far as a fix is concerned, there is none until Apple addresses it in a future update.

Interesting - I thought 10.7.3 was supposed to fix this. I haven't put it on my iMac yet - but I've had that problem with the iMac ever since moving to Lion - and yet - it still hasn't occurred on the MBP - also running Lion under any rev (it is updated to 10.7.3). Odd.

As I just posted above your post..... The 10.7.3 update broke what wasn't broken, and fixed what was broke. :) I'm thinking the airport update was intended only for portables and broke what was working OK in the iMac. I need to test my MacBook for that theory though. I'll run a test this evening when I get back home.

Right - but what's curious is that it was always broken for me on the iMac - even at 10.7.1 - worked fine with SL. So I find it curious that now others are experiencing that with the latest update - also curious that I've never seen it on the MBP.

I tried several fixes.... Downloaded the combo update, no joy. Removed the Airport plist file, no joy. What helped somewhat was editing the Airport plist file to tell Airport to reconnect automatically. The default plist file has the auto connect set to "false". I changed it to "true" and that works but not consistently. Not really a big deal for me as I usually don't use the sleep feature on the iMac. If I'm away, I just shut it down or if I'm busy somewhere else, I'll use the display sleep feature which has no impact on Airport.

Hmmm - I'll take a look at that. Yes - I blank the screen during the day - but sleep it before I head up to bed.

I just tested the MacBook (I got curious) and it works fine with the 10.7.3 fix so it looks like the glitch only impacts the iMac. Strange. Makes me wonder if Apple tests their fixes on all hardware? I hate to say it but Lion is certainly not turning out to be what I expected.

It definitely has more kinks in it than SL did. While it's not terrible (I still love OS X), I've had to "accommodate" some of it's idiosyncrasies.

I was a late Lion adopter - but outside of the Wi-Fi connection after wake issue - I can't think of anything else that has bothered me. The Safari update to 5.x was much much more problematic. I'm probably forgetting something but Lion has been pretty good to me - I've even found Launchpad very very useful of late.

I can only compare Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion, but Lion is the best version I have worked with so far.
Am running this on a 2008 17" MBP and this combination still rocks.
The lag in WiFi reconnect was fixed and I have noticed no other issues.

At some point the people who build the OS might need to go back to basics and revisit all these layers of code that have been written on top of Unix that now makes it OS X.
These guys are only human and developing test scripts on such a variety of hardware combinations must be difficult.... some things might get missed in the testing.

Cheers ... McBie

I agree and it now looks like Apple has also agreed. See the following thread from this LINK and Apple's reply.

Looks like lots of folks will be waiting for 10.7.4. :)

Here's hoping a solution, for those of you who are experiencing this problem, is more permanent than the advisor's. Telling people to not put their computers to sleep is not a fix.

Hi,
Exactly what are the symptoms here, are they the same as mine?

When I wake my iMac it has obviously disconnected itself from wi-fi (a good thing I would guess?) because the wireless signal icon on the menu bar is greyed out. It then starts to look for the network, find it and then connects.

Is this the issue or is it that those with a problem don't get a connection at all ?

No - it doesn't reconnect until you do it manually. This is true on my iMac for waking from sleep or a restart. A minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless.

Right Brian,
This, until I downloaded the Combo update, was happening to me.

Now I don't have to manually connect.

FWIW these are my energy saver settings.

This issue isn't related to energy saver settings - it's done this on my iMac ever since I went to Lion, yet never on my MBP. Now, I haven't put 10.7.3 on the iMac to see if it fixes anything - I'm just going to wait for 10.7.4

That's normal behaviour - your wifi will not work when your machine is asleep. This is why it reconnects when you wake it up.

According to the link provide by chscag it is.
I'd been wondering why the the blue light on my router had changed to red in a morning that's all.

Red light on my router means disconnected from the net at that phone line end and not wirelessly between the iMac and the router.

Same here, Ethernet doesn't wake until 10-15 even 20 seconds after sleep.

Apple = idiots. Lion = idiotic operating system.

10.7.4 is our only hope... I guess
