It's a 2WIRE router from AT&T. My question: why am I not getting assigned an IP and how come all the other computers are?

I still don't have enough information to know for sure.

I don't know how big your available pool of addresses is. Or if you have control of it.

Are you able to administrate your router or is it controlled by AT&T? Is this a U-Verse thing?

My dad is the "admin". No, it's not U-VERSE. Whether or not we, the customers, have control of the addresses I don't know.

Have your "admin" check the router's settings to allow you get back on. Good luck. :)

I'll ask him, but I don't know what to look for and nor does he, and like I said it works fine for his computer and my mom's.

How long have you been unable to get on WiFi?

If you do the power cycling I described in earlier posts, there should be no reason you shouldn't now be unable to connect.

Also, if he knows how to get into the router, it'll tell you whether or not the router sees your machine at all, thus telling you it's a local or network issue.

Ah, got it! I just ran the "Network Setup Assistant". I now am connected again and able to use the internet with an IP in the format of xxx.xxx.x.xxx

We'll still have to figure out a more permanent solution, since my IP is the same each time I connect now, which defeats the purpose of static IP.

That's what a static IP is. Same IP all the time...

...can't get more perm than static. If you're DHCP, your lease does not change every time you connect. Leases are reserved default at 24 hours.
