Bad news for lovers of smaller phones: the iPhone 12 mini has sold poorly compared to other phones in the iPhone 12 lineup—poorly enough that analysts wonder whether Apple will remain committed to the smaller phone design moving forward.

A data firm called Counterpoint Research found that the iPhone 12 mini accounted for just 5 percent of overall sales from the company's smartphone lineup in early January. And J.P. Morgan analyst William Yang told Reuters that screens under 6 inches now account for only 10 percent of smartphones sold industry-wide.

The data from Counterpoint is not the first to tell this story. Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) broke down iPhone 12 lineup sales in detail last month. They found that the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max made up about 20 percent of sales from the larger iPhone 12 lineup during the launch window, while the non-Pro, 6.1-inch iPhone 12 accounted for 27 percent.

It appears most folks (especially the younger ones) like larger phones. In some ways the larger phones are more useful for certain things but may be more difficult to carry around.

My wife loves the larger phones. She tosses it into her large bag that she carries around, but for me a smaller phone that fits in my pocket is more convenient.

Anyone here remember the iPhone 3G or 4? Now, that's a small phone. :)

I just recently restored my wife's old iPhone 4 for my own use when I was informed my old Samsung gsm 2 flip-phone would no longer be supported after the end of December 2020.

I appreciate the small size that just slips nicely into any pocket, and so far I've managed to deal with the smaller text with my old poor failing eyesight.

I am amazed at the number of people that are forced to carry their larger cell phones in their hands as they don't seem to have a bag or holster to carry them in. That would drive me crazy being so handicapped with only one arm and hand left to use.

I am really quite surprised that so few large-screen cellphone users seem to use a lanyard or something similar to leave them with both their hands-free.

This is exactly why I upgraded my iPhone 7 to the iPhone SE 20. For video, video games, photo and text editing, which my wife does a lot, the larger device is obviously the right choice but if you really want to go large a iPad Mini cellular is probably the best option, even though it looks ridiculous when you make an voice call.:ROFLMAO:

I have a friend who is 20 years old and he bought the mini. Loves it. He says it is the perfect size for sliding into his pocket and holding one handed. For my old eyes it is way too small. Plus I put mine in a wallet case so I can include my credit card and driver's license plus a little emergency cash (yes, some of us still carry cash.)

To be truthful, smaller phones such as the 12 Mini and even my 8 are too small for my old eyes. However, it's a trade off. I can carry my 8 easily in my pocket whereas the larger phones do not fit properly. Around here in the Summer temps reach the high 90s every day and I'm usually in shorts which make it even more difficult to carry a large phone.

My wife on the other hand, loves the larger phones. She has no problem fitting it in the huge bag she hauls around with her. :)
