I have a 2007? iMac 24" aluminium, the first models.
Recently the HD has been whirring and the odd click, but to me, it sounded like the heads were shot.
So I bought a new 1TB drive, cloned the dying HD to it, took out the dying HD, and replaced with the new one (which worked perfectly by USB).
But, on trying to boot up, the new HD is making whirring noises pretty much the same as the old one. I've checked the old drive in a USB enclosure, and it is faulty.
But why is my new drive making the same sound as the old one, when 30 minutes earlier, it was working fine in a USB enclosure?
I've now got a dead iMac, just grey screen when I turn it on. Could it be the logic board??
Any help appreciated.
In the meantime, I'll remove the new HD, and test it in an enclose kit.
