lol sounds like good theory to me, i was a bit more cynical and thought that hey just wanted us to buy new computers that much sooner haha.

Hey...that's a theory I thought of as well!;) lol!

I just thought they wanted to keep matched pairs since there is no current way to do it
with 6gb of ram.

I guess that could be a thought too so you don't cause a bottle neck eventually? I never really saw the point of doing exact matching pairs but did it anyway cause i never had the need to do otherwise except for this case. So well see what happens. And by the way that is a very fair price from OWC for that package!

Also, remember Apple bases it's maximum specs based on hardware currently available when the computer is released. At the time the 2007/2008 systems were released, 4GB chips weren't readily available. Had they been available, Apple would have tested them, and would have most likely increased their maximum rating on the computer, and possibly even offered that configuration as a custom build option.

For those wondering about how much RAM their Mac can handle:

A couple of places you can go to verify max that a Mac can use vs what Apple has posted the specs at. One of those is everymac.com. On top of pretty much every spec about a model you want, they'll list the officially supported RAM spec and what has been proven to work in the individual models.
