Well, @vansmith, today started at -8C, climbed to -1, now is back down to -3. And the forecast for tomorrow is .6cm (not 3cm, which I originally said) of ice. So, be careful what you "miss!"
I could use some of that cool air. My poor A/C has had to deal with some brutal temps lately. It got to 44° the other day with humidity and I basically sat next to my A/C.

@chscag, haha, no I definitely haven't. I hardly even comprehend the slang!

Not a ton of artistry in this, but a pretty good demonstration of the Night Mode on my iPhone 13. The time is 3:45 AM last Friday morning, just as the snow was getting to the end. Hand held, no tripod. Exposure was about 1-1.5 seconds. I was surprised at the sharpness and the shading in the dark areas without the lights being blown out. It is a good camera!
That's a nice photo Jake. Makes me feel very tranquil & calm.:)

You certainly did some experimenting & expertise. With no tripod & a 1.0-1.5 second exposure...you had to keep the camera/phone very steady. Do the newer iPhones have any sort of image stabilization tech in them (I forget). If so...that helps.:)

Thanks

Anytime someone says to me, "oh, nice picture," I have to remind them that it's the camera doing all the work, not me. My 13 Pro Max takes pictures that make me look good when I'm really, on the best of days, a mediocre photographer.
Maybe the big benefit of the tech helping us tons...it relieves us of the burden of being concerned about all the tech (like photographers used to have to be with 35mm cameras of the past with film speed, aperture, shutter speed, F stop, ISO, etc.)....all that jazz!;)

Now photographers can totally focus on the creative elements of photography...and not the burden of all the setup stuff.:)

What I want to know is if Bryan has picked up an Aussie accent yet? :p
Can you imagine that accent...part Canadian (Eh)....and part Aussie (G'day mate). Where's my Toque? :rofl

Yes, the AI image processor does have stabilization. It has limits, but it does work really well. What surprised me was the amount of color in the image. The only lighting was the streetlight across the street, the neighbor's porch light, the post lamp in my yard and a very small light to light the flag at night. And yet, the red of the stripes in the flag is very vibrant. The image processing is making all of into potential artists. We just have to do the composition and the smart camera does all the rest. (Composition is key to any picture, but now photographers can concentrate on the composition, not the fiddly details of the mechanics of the camera.)

It also helped, Jake, that some kindly neighbours had driven their cars in concentric circles in the snow in front of your home. Jolly decent of them :) ;):app

Well, one did. The other set was our newspaper delivery. They drive by and throw the paper onto the driveways. But it was a nice detail, particularly with no other tracks from any driveways or on the street.

That is 100% me. I know, for instance, that those are photography terms but have no idea what they mean, haha.

As for my mixed accent, maybe I do! I definitely have a hybrid vocabulary now though.

Maybe we should have a new thread: Look what I did with my iPhone camera

I have a 'proper' camera but almost two years of Covid restrictions have put trips and adventure on the back burner so most photos are done with my phone (12). It still has limitations but I shoot images most days on the basis that the best camera is the one you have with you. Recent night shots in Newcastle (showing it will cope with low light) sunset in my street, portraits.

Here is one I took with my iPhone while on holiday in the UK. Shaftesbury, Gold Hill. Blackmore Vale in the background. We were staying in the white one with the greenery under the window.

Jake, I know this is an old post but I've just come across it. You might be interested to know that your holiday location was used back in the 1970s as the location for a bread advert! I've attache a video below which you might like :)

Yep, I've seen it. Somebody cleaned it up and added or corrected the color. Every year there is a bike race up the hill. And, at the top of the hill is a large loaf of Hovis bread as a charity attraction. Here's a picture of it from Dec, 2021:

Shaftesbury is a lovely town, we love visiting there.

I've spent the summer attempting to master macro photography. It's not easy, especially getting the insects to stay still. Super glue or a staple gun were useless...

Not bad, Sir!!

Nice photos. They were probably female insects - can't keep still:):)

At least you didn't get to the point of having to use a 12 gauge shotgun... :wink

I didn't do many several years ago but when I did I had much better luck and found it much better and easier to use than Apples iPhone Camera.app, and that was to use the Camera.app.

You might want to give it a try and there may even be other apps that are as good or better now as it was several years ago when I was using it, and I think it was an iPhone 4 at the time. A few advantages and improvements have been made in both camera and software since then. ;-)

I have a history with photography, starting with using a Pentax K1000 to document building inspections. Did some concert work (heavy metal) for a while, then transitioned into fetish work (won't post here) then COVID hit and changed everything.

Now, I photograph action figures in my living room.
EDIT:
Nikon D3x, 90mm Macro, tripod, some LED lighting. No post work done. What you see is what I shot)

Since it's a new month, here's a new shot. From a lake nearby. Taken with an ancient Canon 10d with a 70mm Macro. AS per all my work, no post fiddling. What you see is what I shot.
