I think there are some old wives' tales about virtual machines. I actually got rid of my gaming PC about 2 months ago, and now play all my games on my MBP. I play Left4Dead, HL2, Rome:Total War, and Civ V and L4D2 on my Mac natively... but run Dragin Age: Origins, Grand Theft Auto IV, Need for Speed: Shift and BF2BC under parallels with no issues. Parallels games now run just about as well as Cider ports.
