I am considering obtaining Parallels for a PC app I need to run. I've read Time Machine backs up the whole Parallels system any time there is a small change. Time Machine can exclude things from backup, so what do I need to exclude if I get parallels?

That's actually VMware but I assume it is similar. According to this, VMware installs itself in one directory and that is the only one that needs to be excluded. If Parallels is the same I only need to find the directory where it is installed and exclude that.

Thanks.

I just exclude the folders the virtual machines reside in under my home directory, I.e.

Parallels

Two directories then. Are they in your login directory or documents directory?
